Some members of the Executive Committee of Ibadan and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) led by the chairman, Mrs Funmi Omisore, FCA paid a courtesy visit to the Head, Special Control Unit on Money Laundering (SCUML) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Toyin Ehindero-Benson, at her office in Ibadan.
The visit was part of the district’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with key regulatory agencies and to enhance members’ understanding of compliance requirements under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework. It was also to appreciate Mrs Benson who accepted to facilitate at the district’s technical session in November 2025.
During the interactive session, discussions centered on the registration of audit firms under SCUML, particularly in relation to their eligibility to serve as agents to the Commission. The ICAN team advised that the unit should be mindful of delisted firms and those that are yet to renew their practicing licences while granting certificates to firms as agents of the commission and that the registration process and documentation could be designed to be more seamless.
Mrs. Ehindero-Benson commended ICAN for its continued commitment to promoting professional ethics and regulatory compliance. She provided valuable advice on steps to enhance members’ activities in compliance monitoring and reporting, emphasizing the need for continuous sensitization, filing of reports, and adherence to best practices in anti-money laundering procedures.
The visit further highlighted the mutual interest of both institutions in promoting transparency and accountability within the financial system. It was agreed that continued engagement and collaboration between SCUML and ICAN would foster greater awareness among accountants and strengthen the nation’s anti-money laundering framework.
The team also stopped by to see the Zonal Director, Mrs Hauwa G. Ringim
Souvenirs were presented and group photographs were thereafter taken.
